REGIONAL VIRTUAL CSO TRAINING ON ECD

The period of early development from conception until children reach age eight (8) are the most important in terms of unlocking full potentials – and as such – for securing sustainable development. It is for this reason that access to comprehensive, quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes and services is recognised as both a fundamental right in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The CRC is the overarching normative and legal framework for ECD and the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world.

18TH CSO CHILDREN FORUM

Sustaining CSOs contribution in fulfilling children’s rights: The Charter @30 and use of technology
The year 2021 presents an opportunity for the Committee to take stock of the last five years under the five-year (2016-2020) phased monitoring and evaluation plan. The introspection should make the necessary links between the Africa Children’s Charter and the Agenda, for the better protection of children’s rights in Africa. This will help in evaluating what has been done, and what ought to be done to strengthen the implementation of Agenda 2040.
This webinar aims at examining the status of implementation of Agenda 2040 in member States of the AU. It also aims at creating a platform for dialogue among children, policy makers, organizations working on children’s rights, and the academics on the major challenges in ensuring the full implementation of Agenda 2040. It further serves as an experience sharing forum where positive trends, mechanisms and structures in Member States are identified.

The 36th Ordinary Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child

Based on the foregoing and the previous CSO Forum sittings held; the 17th CSO Forum will focus the Charter@30; discuss its achievements and opportunities for CSOs therein to catalyse the realisation of children’s rights. The Forum will also provide a platform for the appreciation of recent General Comments adopted by the Committee at its last sitting and what the implications of these are for CSOs generally and for children. Furthermore, there will be an opportunity to appreciate the study findings of the 2020 Children’s Well-being Report and the Agenda 2040 evaluation. These researches become critical as they direct CSO’s focus areas in advocacy and service provision – facilitating changes in policy and practice as we move to more 30years of the Charter. The 36th Ordinary Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child

In the bid to ensure wider representation at this meeting; we will engage the child sector – and young people sector CSOs and children within their regions to enable meaningful participation. Both regional and main forums will include children as participants. Objectives 1. To map and learn CSOs contribution to the response, safeguarding and protection of children’s rights during the COVID19 health crisis. 2. To reflect on the impact of African Charter in the 30 years and its existence and the initiatives by CSOs. 3. To deliberate on a clear, predictable and well-coordinated approach by the CSO Forum in executing its mandate and adding value to its stakeholders through the development of the Strategic Plan and the Forum’s sustainability as well as other internal policies. 4. To map concrete ways to improve relations and dialogue between the Forum (Management, Secretariat and members), cooperating partners and key stakeholders to effectively deliver on the Forum’s mandate. Agenda Items (Regional Meetings) ● There will be 5 virtual sub-regional convenings based on the regional economic blocks in Africa, that is, Southern, East, North, Central and West regions. The aim of the sub-regional forums is to enable participants to address the unique regional issues on thematic areas of CSO Forum strategic direction and policies such as Safeguarding protocol or protection guidelines, resource mobilisation and registration, ● Regional contribution to the CSO Forum, ● Sub-regional and country initiatives of the Charter@30 ● Sub-regional response to COVID-19 in safeguarding and protecting children’s rights.
